After Union Home Minister Amit Shah met senior officials, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to deploy 50 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in Manipur.

The decision taken on Monday (18 November) aims to address the ongoing "volatile" situation, according to sources. A ministry team is expected to visit the violence-affected regions soon.

Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting to review the situation and sought detailed updates on the deployment of CAPF personnel. He had also convened a similar meeting on Sunday.

Last week, the central government deployed an additional 20 CAPF companies, totaling around 2,000 personnel, to Manipur in response to recent violent incidents and law enforcement challenges.

The move comes amidst continued unrest in the state. Manipur has witnessed renewed violence over the past year following clashes between the predominantly Hindu Meitei community and the largely Christian Kuki group.

The conflict, which initially erupted over a year ago, has deepened ethnic divisions, disrupting the previously peaceful coexistence between the two communities.

The recent violence has escalated tensions further, with attacks reported on the residences of several political leaders. Among them was a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and the homes of four other lawmakers.
