The Hyderabad Disaster Relief and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) on Saturday (24 August) demolished several portions of a convention hall owned by actor Nagarjuna Akkineni.

The move came amid allegations of illegal encroachment within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area in the city's Madhapur region.

The demolition drive was overseen by the Hyderabad police, who were deployed at the site to ensure that the process was conducted without any disruptions.

The N-Convention Centre, built on a 10-acre plot, has been under scrutiny for years.

As per official records provided by the North Tank Division's executive engineer, the FTL area of Thammidikunta Lake is approximately 29.24 acres.

It is alleged that N-Convention encroached on about 1.12 acres of the FTL area and an additional 2 acres within the buffer, NDTV reported.

Reacting to the demolition, Nagarjuna Akkineni took to X to condemn the drive as "unlawful" and refuted any accusations of legal violations, stressing that the case is currently pending in court.

Nagarjuna, disputing the legality of the demolition, asserted that it was based on misinformation.

He clarified on X that had the court ruled against him, he would have personally overseen the demolition.

"The land is Patta land, and not even an inch of the tank plan is encroached. Regarding the building constructed on private land, a stay order was granted against any earlier illegal notice for demolition. Today’s demolition was carried out wrongfully based on misinformation," he stated.

Nagarjuna also pointed out that no prior notice was issued regarding the demolition drive that took place on Saturday morning.

He clarified that his statement was aimed at correcting any public misunderstandings about alleged illegal construction or encroachment.

The actor added that he intends to seek appropriate legal relief in response to the actions taken by the authorities.

HYDRAA is a recently formed agency that functions within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and the districts of Rangareddy, Sangareddy, and Medchal.

Its mandate includes enhancing disaster response and asset protection, along with investigating illegal constructions, as per the Telangana government’s official website.
