The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati and her nephew and BSP national coordinator, Akash Anand reached Chennai on Sunday (7 July) to pay their last respects to Tamil Nadu BSP president K Armstrong.

Armstrong was hacked to death by six bike-borne men near his house in Chennai on Friday. The Tamil Nadu police have linked his murder to retaliation for the killing of gangster Arcot Suresh in August last year.

However, expressing her disappointment over the action taken by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led state government, Mayawati urged Chief Minister M K Stalin to pay attention to the state's law and order.

Mayawati asserted that the BSP has taken the matter seriously and the party will not sit quietly and will exert pressure on the state government to refer this case to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation).

"To ensure action against the accused, the party cadre should come forward but at the same time, stay within the limits of law and show that the weaker section does not take law into their hands," she said.
