In A First, CBI Deploys Three Officers In INTERPOL For Enhanced Global Coordination

In a first, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has deployed three senior officers at INTERPOL to strengthen coordination in tackling transnational crimes and tracking fugitives.

Two officers have been stationed in France, where INTERPOL is headquartered, and one in Singapore.

This initiative marks a significant shift from the earlier practice of deploying only senior officers for short-term assignments.

A senior CBI official confirmed that for timely redressal of issues related to transnational crimes and tracking fugitives, CBI has stationed three CBI officers—two in France and one in Singapore—for better coordination.

These officers will focus on facilitating extradition, coordination, and resolving legal matters concerning fugitives involved in transnational crimes.

In 2024 alone, over 170 notices under various INTERPOL categories have been issued, underscoring the growing need for robust international collaboration.

INTERPOL issues seven types of notices: Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, Green, Orange, and Purple.

In 2023, INTERPOL issued more than 100 Red Corner Notices (RCNs), leading to the return of 29 wanted criminals to India.

In 2024, at least 20 individuals were brought back to India with the support of INTERPOL and international law enforcement agencies.

On Tuesday (7 January), Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the 'Bharatpol' portal to facilitate faster international assistance for Indian agencies.

This digital platform is expected to streamline cooperation between domestic and international law enforcement agencies.

INTERPOL, headquartered in Lyon, France, plays a pivotal role in fostering global police cooperation and crime prevention.
