India Approves Projects Worth Rs 5,532 Crore To Boost Electronics Component Manufacturing, Create Over 5,000 Jobs

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday (27 October) announced the approval of seven projects worth Rs 5,532 crore to establish manufacturing facilities for key electronic components and materials.
The move marks a decisive step towards self-reliance in electronics manufacturing, following the clearance of the first tranche of projects under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).
These projects are expected to generate production worth Rs 36,559 crore and create over 5,100 direct jobs.
Spread across Tamil Nadu (5 units), Andhra Pradesh (1), and Madhya Pradesh (1), the new units are seen as a push towards balanced regional industrial growth beyond traditional manufacturing hubs.
The ECMS has drawn an overwhelming response, with 249 applications received representing potential investments of Rs 1.15 lakh crore and projected production worth Rs 10.34 lakh crore.
Vaishnaw said the approved facilities will help bridge India’s supply-demand gap for critical electronic parts.
The projects will cover the production of High-Density Interconnect (HDI) and Multi-Layer PCBs, Camera Modules, Copper Clad Laminates, and Polypropylene Films—all key components in smartphones, EVs, medical devices, and defence systems.
Officials said the initiative marks India’s entry into component materials manufacturing, reducing import dependence while strengthening the country’s electronics ecosystem.
The ECMS complements the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and India Semiconductor Mission, completing the value chain from raw materials to finished devices and positioning India as a trusted global electronics hub.
