India has categorically denied reports circulating on social media that US fighter jets used Indian airspace to carry out recent strikes on Iran, labelling the claims as entirely baseless, PTI reported.
The denial comes in the wake of Operation Midnight Hammer, during which the United States (US) conducted targeted airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran on Sunday (22 June).
The operation follows heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, and the US warning of further military action should Iran retaliate.
As online chatter intensified, with several social media handles alleging that American aircraft accessed Indian airspace during the mission, the government swiftly responded through its official fact-checking arm.
The statement aims to dispel misinformation that had gained traction online amid an already volatile geopolitical climate.
PIB also noted that US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Dan Caine had clarified the specific route taken by the American aircraft during a press briefing, which did not involve any use of Indian airspace.
Officials reiterated that India was not involved in the military operation and remains committed to maintaining neutrality in external conflicts.
