India Slams Pakistan At UN For Rights Violations In PoK, Calls Concept Of Fundamental Rights ‘Alien’ To Islamabad

India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, called upon Pakistan to end grave human rights violations in territories illegally occupied by it, particularly in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, while reiterating that fundamental rights remain an 'alien' concept to Pakistan.

Speaking at the UN Security Council during an open debate organised on the 80th UN Day on Friday (24 October), Ambassador Harish stated that the population is in open revolt against Pakistan's military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal exploitation of resources.

The Indian envoy emphasised India's commitment to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, seeing the world as one family, and advocating for justice, dignity, opportunity and prosperity for all societies and peoples, adding that this is the reason why India places its faith in multilateralism, international partnerships and cooperation.

Ambassador Harish also acknowledged questions facing the United Nations regarding its relevance, legitimacy, credibility and efficacy.

The debate took place as on 24 October marked the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945.
