In a significant step toward expanding India’s global footprint in nutrition-oriented agri-exports, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the export of 20 metric tonnes of fortified rice from Chhattisgarh to Papua New Guinea (PNG), the Commerce Ministry said on Wednesday (5 November).

The consignment marks another milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen its reputation as a reliable supplier of high-quality, fortified and value-added food products in global markets.

According to the ministry, Chhattisgarh has emerged as an important contributor to India’s rice exports.

The state’s sustained efforts to promote rice and fortified rice have provided local farmers, millers, and exporters greater visibility in international trade.

The latest shipment further reinforces Chhattisgarh’s evolving role in the global nutrition-focused food supply chain, according to the ministry.

APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev lauded the exporter, Sponge Enterprises Pvt Ltd, Raipur, and all stakeholders involved in achieving this milestone.

He said the export reflects India’s growing ability to deliver premium-quality, science-based, and nutrition-oriented food solutions to international consumers.

Mukesh Jain, President of the Rice Exporters Association of Chhattisgarh (TREA-CG), expressed gratitude for APEDA’s continuous support.

He noted that exports of fortified rice from the state are expected to reach new global markets, reflecting international confidence in India’s product quality and supply reliability.

Fortified rice is produced by blending rice flour with essential micronutrients like iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12.

The mixture is extruded and shaped into rice-like grains, then combined with regular rice to enhance its nutritional value.

The process highlights India’s technological prowess in food fortification and commitment to global food security.
