Amid ongoing tensions with Pakistan, the Indian Army has issued tender to procure shoulder-fired Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (Next Generation) to take out enemy aircraft, choppers and drones, news agency ANI reported citing defence officials.

"The Army has placed requirements for 48 launchers, 85 missiles along with other required equipment, under 'Make in India'," ANI reported.

This comes as the tensions between India and Pakistan have been growing in the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed by Pakistan-linked terrorists.

Following the terror attack, Pakistan has resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) and the International border. India Army has responded to the ceasefire violations in a proportionate manner.

At least 26 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the 22 April attack in Baisaran meadow in J&K's Pahalgam by Pakistan-linked terrorists.

As terror links to Pakistan surfaced following the attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, cancelled all visas of Pakistani nationals and shut down its airspace for flights from the neighbouring country.

Pakistan, in response, had threatened to suspend all bilateral agreements with India, including the Simla agreement.

The two countries have also downgraded diplomatic ties in the aftermath of the deadly terror attack.

India further tightened its stance by banning all imports from Pakistan and prohibiting vessels bearing the Pakistani flag from entering Indian waters.
