The Indian Navy will commission its new support base INS Aravali in Gurugram today (12 September), strengthening its network of information and communication centres critical to India’s maritime security framework.

According to the Navy, INS Aravali, named after the enduring Aravali mountain range, has been established to bolster command, control and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) operations. Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, will preside over the commissioning ceremony.

MDA refers to comprehensive awareness of maritime activities that impact security, safety, and economic interests.

The newly unveiled Crest of INS Aravali reflects its identity, with a central mountain motif symbolising the resilience of the Aravali range, a rising sun denoting vigilance and energy, and imagery that underscores the dawn of advanced technological capabilities in communication and MDA.

The Navy said the Crest encapsulates the base’s commitment to maintaining vigilance and safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
