The Ministry of Railways has launched the ‘Round Trip Package for Festival Rush’ to handle the surge in passenger traffic during the festive season, reported The Times Of India.
From 14 August, passengers can book round-trip tickets with a 20 per cent rebate on the return journey’s base fare.
This special scheme applies to onward journeys between 13 October and 26 October and return journeys from 17 November to 1 December.
Passengers must book both legs together for the same set of passengers, class, and origin-destination pair.
The tickets must be confirmed for both directions and booked through the same mode, either online or at reservation counters.
The offer excludes trains with flexi fares, allows no refunds or modifications, and covers all classes, including special trains.
Officials believe that encouraging advance booking will distribute passenger traffic more evenly across the season.
The Ministry has already initiated software updates and coordinated with IRCTC and CRIS to ensure smooth implementation.
“Software updates and coordination with IRCTC and CRIS are also underway to support seamless implementation,” an official source was quoted as saying by ToI.
This experimental initiative targets better management of festive rush by incentivising passengers to plan ahead, thereby easing pressure on the railway system. It marks a strategic attempt to balance high demand with available capacity, ensuring smoother journeys during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
