Indian Railways Revenues Up By 38 Per Cent In August

Continuing with the growth trajectory, the earnings from goods and passengers grew by 38 per cent till August 2022 over the corresponding period of last year.

The overall revenue of Indian Railways at the end of August this year was Rs 95,486.58 crore, showing an increase of Rs 26,271.29 crore (38 per cent) over the corresponding period of last year.

According to the railways data, passenger traffic revenue grew by 116 per cent while the growth from the long distance Mail/Express trains was sharper than the same in passenger and suburban trains.

Other coaching revenue increased by 50 per cent, goods revenue grew by 20 per cent and sundry revenue grew by 95 per cent.

The revenue from passenger traffic was Rs 25,276.54 crore with an increase of Rs 13,574.44 crore (116 per cent) over the corresponding period of last year.

Passenger traffic also increased compared to last year in both the segments, reserved as well as unreserved.


The other coaching revenue was Rs 2,437.42 crore, showing an increase of Rs 811.82 crore (50 per cent) over the corresponding period of last year.

This growth is being fuelled by robust growth in the parcel segment of the Indian Railways.

Goods revenue was Rs 65,505.02 crore by August this year and has increased by Rs 10,780.03 crore (20 per cent) over the corresponding period of last year.

Food grains, fertilizer, cement, mineral oil, container traffic and other goods segments have been important contributors in this growth, in addition to coal transportation.

The sundry revenue was Rs 2,267.60 crore, showing an increase of Rs 1,105 crore (95 per cent) over the corresponding period of last year.
