The Indian Railways has announced plans to operate 3,000 special trains during Maha Kumbh 2025, with 560 of these running on a dedicated ring rail network, a senior official said.

North Central Railway General Manager Upendra Chandra Joshi shared details of the extensive preparations during a press briefing.

A total of 560 ticketing points are being made available at nine railway stations -- Prayagraj Junction, Subedarganj, Naini, Prayagraj Chheoki, Prayag Junction, Phaphamau, Prayagraj Rambagh, Prayagraj Sangam, and Jhunsi -- as well as in the fair area, said Joshi.

He added that these counters can distribute up to 10 lakh tickets per day, and tickets can now be booked 15 days in advance.

The Railways has also prepared plans for ring rail routes connecting Prayagraj-Ayodhya-Varanasi-Prayagraj, Prayagraj-Sangam Prayag-Jaunpur-Prayag-Prayagraj, Govindpuri-Prayagraj-Chitrakoot-Govindpuri, and Jhansi-Govindpuri-Prayagraj-Manikpur-Chitrakoot-Jhansi.

Of the 3,000 special trains, 1,800 will cater to short-distance routes, 700 to long-distance routes, and 560 will operate on the ring rail. In addition, over 10,000 regular trains will also run during the event.

During this time, there will be a system of entry from the city side and exit from the Civil Line side at Prayagraj Junction, Joshi noted.

For passenger safety, 1,186 CCTV cameras will be operational, including 116 equipped with AI-based face recognition technology to identify anti-social elements.

Live footage will be monitored in dedicated CCTV control rooms.

Joshi also highlighted medical preparedness, noting that a six-bed observation room has been set up at Prayagraj Junction with facilities such as oxygen cylinders, concentrators, ECG machines, glucometers, nebulisers, and stretchers to provide medical assistance to passengers.
