Indian Railways is all set to launch a new Vande Bharat Express between Ahmedabad and Udaipur, aiming to provide faster and more efficient rail connectivity between the two cities.
The train is reportedly expected to begin operations by late January or February. This comes after the successful electrification of the Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar-Udaipur route.
Schedule and Timings
The Vande Bharat Express will run six days a week, excluding Tuesdays. It will depart from Udaipur at 6.10 am, arriving in Ahmedabad at 10.25 am, with a two-minute stop at Himmatnagar.
In the return trip, the train will leave Ahmedabad at 5.45 pm and reach Udaipur by 10.00 pm. The train’s starting and ending point in Ahmedabad will be Asarwa railway station.
Comfort and Speed
Featuring eight AC chair car coaches, the Vande Bharat Express promises a comfortable and modern travel experience.
The four-hour rail journey is a faster alternative to the five-hour road trip between Ahmedabad and Udaipur.
A Boost to Tourism
Tourism experts in Udaipur are optimistic about the positive impact on regional tourism.
Iconic attractions like the Shrinathji and Eklingji temples are expected to see increased footfall.
However, stakeholders have proposed aligning the train’s schedule with hotel check-in times and temple visiting hours to further tourists' convenience.
Regional Expansion Proposals
Udaipur MP Mannalal Ravat has applauded the launch and proposed extending Vande Bharat services to Indore and Surat, which could improve connectivity and serve a larger number of passengers.
Additionally, travellers have suggested including Daungarpur as a stop to expand the route’s reach.
