India’s defence manufacturing sector has achieved its highest-ever annual output, with production reaching Rs 1,50,590 crore in FY 2024-25, according to an official release.
This marks an 18 per cent increase over the previous fiscal’s Rs 1.27 lakh crore and a 90 per cent rise compared to FY 2019-20, when the figure stood at Rs 79,071 crore.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the milestone as a clear indicator of the country’s strengthening defence industrial base.
He credited the achievement to the collective efforts of the Department of Defence Production, Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), other public sector manufacturers, and the private industry.
Public sector enterprises, including DPSUs, contributed about 77 per cent of the total production, while the private sector accounted for 23 per cent, up from 21 per cent in FY 2023-24.
Production output for DPSUs rose by 16 per cent, while the private sector saw a stronger 28 per cent growth.
According to the release, the defence exports have surged to a record high of Rs 23,622 crore in FY 2024-25.
It was a growth of Rs 2,539 crore or 12.04 per cent over the defence exports figures of FY 2023-24, which were Rs 21,083 crore.
