India’s First Solar-Plus-Storage Project With 95 Per Cent Supply Availability At Sub-Rs 3 Tariff Coming Up In MP's Morena

In a first for India, Madhya Pradesh has set a new benchmark in renewable energy pricing, offering tariffs below Rs 3 per unit for upcoming solar projects in Morena, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Saturday (20 September), reported Business Standard.

The state awarded 600 MW and 880 MWh (dual cycle) units after competitive bidding.

The winning bidders Ceigall India Ltd quoted a tariff of Rs 2.70 per unit, and ACME Solar Holdings Ltd offered Rs 2.764 per unit, Mohan Yadav told news agency PTI.

Yadav said it would be the first Solar-Plus-Storage facility in India to ensure an annual availability of 95 per cent supply.

Each unit will generate 220 MW through solar panels during the day and batteries charged by solar energy in evening peak hours.

In the morning, before solar panels start charging, units will draw power from the same batteries charged using cheaper night-time grid electricity, the CM added.

This is the first project in India to provide firm, dispatchable renewable energy for less than Rs 3 per unit, it said.

Existing projects typically provide only 50 per cent peak-hour availability and 85 per cent annual availability.

The project also paves the way for future renewable initiatives designed to deliver flat-profile electricity around the clock, aligning renewable energy with conventional power in reliability and commercial viability, the release added.

This landmark project positions Madhya Pradesh at the forefront of affordable, dependable renewable energy, potentially transforming the country’s solar power landscape.
