Indore Airport Set For Major Expansion With New Terminal, Extended Runway —Boosting Passenger Capacity To 55 Lakh

On Sunday (22 December), Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu announced a major development plan for Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore.
A new terminal building will be constructed within three years to boost passenger capacity and upgrade facilities. In addition, Naidu inaugurated a new air traffic control tower-cum-technical block and a garbage disposal plant at the airport.
Naidu revealed that the Ministry of Civil Aviation is already planning the new terminal, which is expected to be completed by 2028.
He stated, “At present, 40 lakh people can travel through the Indore airport every year, but due to increased civil aviation activities, it is insufficient. Hence, I assure the people of Indore that the airport will have a capacity to cater to 55 lakh passengers in four months.”
"We have sent a letter to the state government and requested that it give us land adjacent to the airport as soon as possible," Naidu said.
The Indore airport currently handles around 90 aircraft daily, connecting 21 cities across India and Sharjah. Minister Naidu also promised discussions with airlines for direct flights to Singapore, Bangkok, and Dubai.
Local MP Shankar Lalwani called for Indore airport to be granted international status, as it has been operating international flights for five years without official recognition.
