In a renewed push to expand Gurgaon's metro network, the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has floated tenders to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for two new metro corridors that will connect the old and new parts of the city, reported TOI.
This comes even as construction for the much-awaited Millennium City Centre–Cyber City metro line remains months away.
The first of the planned corridors is a 17 km line from Bhondsi to Gurgaon Railway Station, designed to decongest key traffic chokepoints along Sohna Road and NH-8.
The proposed route will pass through major nodes including Vatika Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sohna Chowk, Sector 4-7 Chowk, and Railway Road.
The second corridor, measuring 13.6 km, will link Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5, running through dense residential and commercial hubs such as Hong Kong Market (Sector 57), Ardee City, Signature Tower, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, and Sheetla Mata Road.
It is expected to be a game-changer for commuters travelling between corporate zones and Old Gurgaon neighbourhoods.
"We invited tenders for preparing DPR of two new metro lines. The 17 km line will offer a seamless link from SPR to transit hubs. The interchanges with metro, RRTS corridor and railway station will integrate regional and city travel. Similarly, 13 km metro line will cover densely populated areas of the city," said an HMRTC official.
The DPR tender process had been delayed due to the Model Code of Conduct enforced during Haryana’s assembly polls in October. With elections now concluded, the project has resumed momentum.
