Sindi Multimodal Logistics Park
The much-awaited Sindi Multimodal Logistics Park in Maharashtra is poised to commence operations in this year, with exports to Bangladesh likely marking its debut.
This strategic dry port, developed by Delta Corp under a concessionaire agreement with Maharashtra Multimodal Logistics Park Limited (MMLPM), is set to revolutionise logistics efficiency in the Vidarbha region.
Delta Corp has reportedly sought permission to begin operations using the existing infrastructure, potentially starting ahead of the scheduled commercial operation date.
The facility is expected to initially focus on exporting goods like cotton, automobile parts, and transmission towers to Bangladesh, leveraging the cost-effective riverine route.
The logistics park has been designed to capitalise on the riverine route, offering a faster and more economical alternative to conventional rail and road transport.
Under the proposed plan, cargo will be transported via rail to Haldia in West Bengal, where river vessels will carry it to Bangladesh.
Apart from exports, the park plans to deploy car carriers for domestic automobile transportation.
These closed containers will facilitate the movement of tractors, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers.
Vidarbha's cotton, along with perishable commodities such as oranges and onions, is also likely to be exported from this facility.
Inaugurated in December 2023, the Sindi dry port is a flagship project driven by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
Once operational, the Sindi Multimodal Logistics Park is set to emerge as a centralised hub for domestic cargo, reducing reliance on scattered railway terminals. Its strategic location and innovative transport model promise to transform Vidarbha's logistics sector, fostering economic growth and trade efficiency.
