'ISRO Astronaut Aboard International Space Station': NASA Chief Bill Nelson On US-India Joint Efforts

The administrator of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), Bill Nelson on Thursday (20 June) emphasised the collaboration of India and the US in the space sector.

This comes a few days after US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan came to India and discussed various areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries including the space sector.

"Building on my visit to India last year, NASA continues to further the United States and India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology for the benefit of humanity," Nelson said on X.

While Nelson did not reveal specific details about the mission, saying that they are still in work, India and the US have recently concluded Strategic Framework for Human Spaceflight Cooperation.

"These efforts will support future human spaceflight and improve life here on Earth," Nelson concluded as work on commencing advanced training for ISRO astronauts at the NASA Johnson Space Centre is ongoing.

India and the US are also preparing for the launch of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, a jointly developed satellite to map the entirety of the Earth's surface twice every 12 days.
