The Economic Survey (2024-25), released on Friday (31 January) has highlighted the pivotal role of ISRO’s advanced geospatial platforms in infrastructure monitoring and management across various sectors.

These initiatives are enhancing efficiency in rural development, electrical infrastructure, judicial projects, and urban planning, significantly improving tracking mechanisms.

A key contributor to these efforts is the Bhuvan platform, which supports infrastructure monitoring under major schemes such as MGNREGA and the watershed component of PMKSY.

The platform enables real-time tracking at different stages of implementation, ensuring better transparency and accountability.

ISRO’s geospatial technology is also aiding electrical infrastructure management, particularly in Maharashtra and Telangana, through Web-GIS portals.

The NyayaVikas Portal, developed in collaboration with the Department of Justice, is another milestone in judicial infrastructure monitoring.

The platform tracks 2,840 judicial projects using Web-GIS and mobile geotagging, with over 7,900 geotags created to ensure real-time updates on construction progress.

In urban development, ISRO has played a crucial role in creating large-scale 2D urban geospatial databases for 238 AMRUT cities. These databases support the development of GIS-based master plans, facilitating better urban planning and governance.

The Economic Survey 2024-25 highlights the growing integration of geospatial technology in national infrastructure projects, reinforcing the government's commitment to data-driven governance and smart planning.
