The request by Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), to appoint Raghav Chadha as the interim party leader in the Rajya Sabha, has been formally rejected by its chairman, Jagdeep Dhankar, The Hindu reported.

On 14 December, Kejriwal put forth a request. This was in the context of the existing Rajya Sabha party leader, Sanjay Singh, is in judicial custody since February in the excise policy case and therefore, could not participate in the parliamentary session.

Sanjay Singh persists in his role as the leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha.

In his prior correspondence, Kejriwal had suggested, "I propose Raghav Chadha to serve as the provisional party leader in the Rajya Sabha until it's necessary to make further alterations. We ask for this modification to be accepted according to the Rajya Sabha's rules and procedures."
