Indian Railways is redeveloping Jaipur railway station in Rajasthan with world-class facilities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), reported The Indian Express.
Falling under the administrative control of the North Western Railway (NWR) zone, the project carries an estimated cost of over Rs 717 crore and aims to handle about 1.75 lakh passengers daily.
According to Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), NWR, authorities are executing the redevelopment work in phases.
“To connect the main entrance and the second entrance of the station, a 108 x 95 meter air concourse (total area 10,260 square meters) is being constructed, the structural work of which has been completed and fabrication work is being done and the work of girder launching is proposed to be done soon,” he said.
Officials have nearly finished building construction and basement parking at the second entry (Hasanpura side). Two new foot overbridges (FOBs) form part of the plan—one 6-meter-wide FOB at the Dausa side is already open, while structural work on the Sikar side FOB is complete, with fabrication in progress.
The upgraded station will feature an arrival-departure lobby, baggage scanner-equipped security check, help desk, modular toilets, retail stalls, waiting rooms, lifts, escalators, and Divyangjan-friendly amenities. Authorities plan to install 30 lifts and 18 escalators to ease passenger movement.
The redevelopment also incorporates green building practices, including waste disposal systems, rainwater harvesting, and renewable energy. A 2,000 KW solar power plant will supply clean energy to the station.
