External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to visit Moscow from 20 to 21 August, where he will engage in discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, India Today reported.
This visit comes closely on the heels of Washington’s decision to impose an extra 25 epr cent tariff on Indian exports, a move linked to India’s continued imports of crude oil from Russia.
Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an extensive discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin amid the trade uncertainty and tariff announcements.
The two leaders also reviewed the situation in Ukraine, with Prime Minister Modi reaffirming India’s long-standing call for a peaceful settlement.
The United States has already imposed a 25 per cent tariff on India for importing goods from Russia.
The Kremlin released video showing President Putin greeting Ajit Doval with a handshake but gave no official account of their conversation.
Doval confirmed that President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India in the near future. The visit is expected to take place by the end of 2025.
"We are very excited and delighted to learn about the visit of President Putin to India. I think that the dates are almost finalised now," Doval said, Times of India reported.
