Jal Jeevan Mission Provides Piped Water To Three-Fourths Rural Households, 11.8 Crore New Connections In Five Years

The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal scheme, launched in August 2019 has provided piped water connection to 11.8 crore rural households in five years.

When the scheme was launched, only 3.23 Crore (16.8 per cent) of rural households were reported to have tap water connections. The number has now come to 15.03 Crore i.e. 77.83 per cent households.

States like Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Goa, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram have attained ‘Har Ghar Jal’ States status with a coverage of 100 per cent.

Along with water supply, the water quality is also being monitored. A separate provision for 316 Arsenic and 265 Fluoride affected rural habitations has been made.

2.31 lakh villages have reported to have 100 per cent tap water connection. Of them, around 1.28 lakh villages have been certified by the respective Gram Sabha.

The highest number of 'Har Ghar Jal' certified villages are in Uttar Pradesh, followed by Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Telangana does not have any certified village, while Bihar has only one.
