Jammu-Kashmir Police Demands Jio Internet To Implement Three New Criminal Laws: Report

The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police has requested the Union Home Ministry to allow Reliance Jio to provide services in police stations, so the force does not face internet issues in implementing the three new criminal laws.

Notably, police personnel are required to upload documents on apps of NIC (National Informatics Centre) under the three new criminal laws, but in remote areas, they are unable to do so due to network issues.

"The app does not authorise the Jio network. So we have raised this issue in the meeting and are coordinating with the officials of NIC for a solution," a senior J&K official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Currently, the UT has only cable lines installed by Airtel and BSNL. The remote areas witness network issues, where only Optical Fibre of Jio has been installed and hence there is a demand to whitelist Jio.

"The Centre has also asked that the UTs of J&K and Ladakh take up the issues being faced by them together with the J&K and Ladakh High Court," another officer told IE.

Meanwhile, a technical team is being sent to J&K to resolve the issues in syncing large audio-visual files with e-Sakshya (e-evidence) and technical issues related to services e-signature, SMS notification, Nyaya Setu, Nyaya Shruti and e-court.
