In Jammu and Kashmir's (J&K) Pahalgam, a terrorist attack today (22 April) resulted in injuries to at least five tourists. Medical teams and security forces have promptly been dispatched to the location.
Shots were fired in the elevated fields of Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, NDTV reported. The region can only be accessed by walking or riding a horse.
It seems that the attackers, presumably terrorists, were discreetly dressed in camouflage, suggesting that this assault was likely premeditated and targeted.
Renowned for its lush forests, pristine lakes, and expansive meadows, Pahalgam is a favored destination among tourists.
The 38-day pilgrimage, scheduled to start on 3 July, will commence from two paths - the 48-km route from Pahalgam in the Anantnag district and the shorter but more steep 14-km route from Baltal in the Ganderbal district.
On his latest trip to J&K, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over a high-level security assessment meeting. In this meeting, he commanded a full elimination of terrorism, particularly in the Jammu division. He also instructed strict adherence to a policy of zero tolerance towards infiltration.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to J&K, where he was set to inaugurate the Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Srinagar, was postponed. However, the reason was reported to be forecast of adverse weather conditions.
