Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Jaya Bachchan objected to the tone of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in Rajya Sabha on Friday (9 August) and said it is not acceptable.

"Sir, I Jaya Amitabh Bachchan want to say that I am an artist, I understand body language and expression. And sir, forgive me, but your tone is not acceptable," the SP MP said.

To this Dhankhar asked Bachchan to take her seat and said, "You have earned a great reputation. You know, an actor is subject to the director. You have not seen what I see from here."

"I don't want schooling. I am a person who has gone out of the way and you say my tone! You may be a celebrity but you have to understand the decorum. I will not bear it," the VP added.

Soon after this, the Opposition staged a walkout with Congress MP Sonia Gandhi accompanying Bacchan with other leaders of the two ally parties.

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament, Bachchan said, "We are not school children. Some of us are senior citizens. I was upset with the tone."

She alleged that when the Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge stood up to speak, Dhankhar switched off the mike and questioned how he could do this.

Bachchan further alleged that Dhankhar uses "unparliamentary words" and disrespects women. She demanded an apology from the Chair for saying that he does not care.
