The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has written a letter to the Jharkhand chief secretary and DGP, seeking protection for its officials.

This comes as Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has warned that there is huge resentment among people over the summons issued by the ED to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, which may take an ugly shape.

The central financial probe agency is set to question Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren in connection with its probe in the land scam case on Saturday (20 January).

The letter has been written to deal with the problems related to to law and order while questioning CM Hemant Soren, The New Indian Express reported citing sources.

Soren has agreed to join the ED probe in the case after being summoned for the eighth time.

The Jharkhand CM is expected to be questioned at his residence in Ranchi on Saturday afternoon.

The letter has also been forwarded to the Senior Superintendent of Police in Ranchi.

The police have also arranged for an escort for the ED team while they go to Chief Minister’s residence to prevent any untoward situation.

Earlier on Wednesday (17 January), the JMM claimed that there is huge resentment among people against ED’s politically motivated action against its leaders and State government officials.

The CM Soren-led party urged the agency to maintain transparency and fact-based operations, rather than acting under political influence.

JMM General Secretary and Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya also claimed that they fear that the anger among the people against ED doesn’t take an ugly shape

Meanwhile, over a dozen tribal organisations from various parts of Jharkhand plan to protest at Raj Bhawan in Ranchi today (19 January) against the "conspiracy" being hatched by Centre against the tribal Chief Minister.

The protest, led by Kendriya Sarna Samiti, will see participation from tribals from at least eight district.
