Jammu and Kashmir Elections 2024

In the J&K assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to sweep the Jammu region while the Congress is leading on just one seat in the Hindu-majority region, which was once its stronghold.

According to the latest Election Commission figures, the BJP has already won 27 seats and is leading on two other seats in the Jammu region.

Meanwhile, the Congress, which bagged 12 seats in the last elections and is fighting the 2024 J&K Assembly polls in alliance with the National Conference (NC), has won six seats in the UT, with only one of them (Rajouri) in Jammu.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has a total of 90 seats.

The Hindu-majority Jammu region has 43 Assembly constituencies with the remaining 47 seats in the Muslim-majority Kashmir region.

Jammu was once the stronghold of the Congress, but it has lost its ground in the region since 2014.

The BJP has scored a hat-trick of victories in both the Lok Sabha seats in Jammu since 2014.

This comes as the National Conference-Congress alliance appeared set for a victory in the Union Territory, by winning 45 seats and ahead on three, but the NC has done most of heavy lifting with wins in 39 constituencies and leads on three seats, most of them in the Kashmir region, according to latest EC data.

Assembly polls were held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir on 18, 25 September and 1 October, the first such elections in a decade, and also the first since the scrapping of Article 370 from the erstwhile state.
