In a coordinated effort to curb terrorist activities, security forces launched large-scale search operations across nearly two dozen locations in Jammu province on Tuesday (29 January), reported The Indian Express.
The operations, spanning dense forests along the Line of Control to high-altitude regions, aim to neutralise terrorists responsible for a series of attacks across the region last year.
According to official sources, the multi-agency effort involves the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and other security units.
The searches are being conducted to counter infiltration attempts and disrupt terrorist networks allegedly supported by handlers across the border. The synchronised approach is designed to restrict militant movements and prevent them from evading security personnel.
The highest number of search operations—10—are underway in the Chenab Valley region, covering Kishtwar, Doda, and Ramban districts. Meanwhile, security personnel have launched searches at seven locations in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Pir Panjal region.
Three locations in Udhampur, two in Reasi, and one in Jammu are also under active search. Officials indicated that these efforts are part of an area domination exercise ahead of the summer season, a time when militant activity often intensifies.
During his visit to forward operating bases (FOBs) at the tri-junction of Kathua, Doda, and Udhampur districts, Prabhat reviewed the security situation and lauded personnel for their unwavering commitment to maintaining stability in the region.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by security forces in remote and volatile areas, he emphasised the need for vigilance while ensuring the safety of local communities.
Terrorists have been expanding their operations in Jammu province, particularly since 2021. While the districts of Rajouri and Poonch have seen a decline in militant activity this year, fresh incidents in Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur, and Jammu since April 2023 have raised concerns for security agencies.
In 2023, terrorist attacks claimed 44 lives, including 18 security personnel, across Jammu province. Security forces, in response, neutralised 13 militants during counterterrorism operations.
Given the evolving security dynamics, authorities are expected to intensify search operations in the coming months to prevent further threats and ensure stability in the region.
