Security forces foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, killing two terrorists in a joint operation, Hindustan Times reported.

The operation was launched after the Jammu and Kashmir Police shared intelligence inputs about possible movement along the LoC.

Acting on the alert, Army troops spotted suspicious activity in the sector and intercepted the infiltrators.

The terrorists opened fire, which was effectively retaliated, leading to their neutralisation.

The Chinar Corps posted on X, “Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice in Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Operation is in progress.”

This is the latest in a series of infiltration attempts thwarted along the LoC.

Suspicious movement was detected along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector on 25 August, prompting Army personnel to open fire. Search operations have been launched in the area, according to officials.

The unmanned aerial vehicles, believed to be used for surveillance, remained airborne for a few minutes before returning across the border.

The incident follows a recent infiltration bid earlier this month, on 13 August, an Army soldier lost his life while preventing infiltrators from crossing over in the Uri sector of Baramulla district. The exchange of fire in the Churunda area ended with the attempt being foiled.

On 30 July, two heavily armed terrorists, suspected to be Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives, were killed in a fierce gunfight in the Poonch sector.

The Army had said the operation, codenamed ShivShakti, was carried out with support from intelligence agencies and J&K Police, marking a significant blow to cross-border terror activities.

These incidents underline the continuing efforts of Pakistan-backed groups to push terrorists into Kashmir and the heightened vigilance of Indian security forces in countering such attempts along the LoC.
