J&K: Village Defence Group Members Engage In Brief Firefight With Terrorists In Doda's Dessa

A fresh exchange of fire was reported between hiding terrorists and members of the Village Defence Group (VDG) in Doda district of the Jammu province on Wednesday (17 July).

The brief exchange of fire was reported from Malan village in the Dessa area of Doda district on Wednesday morning, according to officials, The Hindu reported.

No casualties were reported in the incident.

According to the reports, the VDG members noticed movement and initiated gunfire, leading to a short encounter.

A search operation is continuing in the area.


The Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation in the Desa area of Doda based on specific input about the presence of terrorists, according to the officials.

In a statement, the Indian Army said that Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay laid down their lives in the line of duty during the counter-terrorist operation.

The attack was claimed by 'Kashmir Tigers', a shadow group of Pakistan-backed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
