Protest over RG Kar Case (File Photo)
Junior doctors demanding justice in the RG Kar Medical College case staged a protest outside the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Kolkata on Tuesday (24 December). The protesters accused the CBI of unnecessary delays in the investigation and alleged collusion with the state police to shield the accused.
In a symbolic act of defiance, the doctors locked the gate of the CBI office, demanding an expedited probe. Tensions flared when security personnel removed the symbolic lock, leading to a confrontation and scuffle.
Expressing their frustration, one protesting doctor remarked, "If this continues, it would be better if they shut down their office in Kolkata."
Protests have been ongoing, with representatives of Abhaya Manch and the Joint Platform of Doctors leading demonstrations at Dorina Crossing in Central Kolkata. On 23 December, the Kolkata High Court upheld its earlier order granting permission for the protests to continue.
One of the protesters emphasised the lack of justice for the victim, stating, "Our sister, Abhaya, has still not received justice." Another vowed to continue the demonstrations until 31 December, adding that they would approach the court again to extend the protest if necessary.
