Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha has been remanded to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody until 15 April by a special court in Delhi following allegations of threatening Aurobindo Pharma promoter Sarath Chandra Reddy to pay Rs 25 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

As per reports by Times Now, the payment was purportedly in exchange for the five retail zones Reddy's firm received under the Delhi government's excise policy.

According to the CBI, Kavitha allegedly warned Reddy that his business interests in Telangana and Delhi would suffer if he failed to comply with the payment demands to the ruling AAP in the national capital.

Reddy, previously implicated in a money-laundering case linked to an alleged liquor scam in Delhi, has since turned approver in the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation.

Allegations further suggest that Kavitha assured Reddy of assistance in navigating the liquor business landscape in Delhi under the now-defunct excise policy, leveraging her purported connections within the Delhi government.

The CBI, seeking an extension of Kavitha's custody, informed the court that the payments were to be made to her associates, Arun R Pillai and Abhishek Boinpally, who would, in turn, coordinate with Vijay Nair, representing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Notably, she was previously arrested by the ED on 15 March following a search at her residence in Hyderabad.
