The Bengaluru Business Corridor-2 (BBC-2), previously known as Peripheral Ring Road-2, is facing significant hurdles in land acquisition as landowners protest against the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) over notices issued for acquiring their properties, reported The New Indian Express.
The 52-km corridor, designed to enhance connectivity between Hosur Road and Tumakuru Road, requires 1,400 acres, with opposition mounting over the acquisition of approximately 250 acres.
The conflict traces back to two alignments proposed in 2005 and 2006.
Initially, the corridor was planned to connect Madavara with Magadi Road, but concerns over potential traffic congestion on Tumakuru Road led authorities to shift the route 2-3 km away, incorporating Madanayakanahalli instead.
However, the 2005 alignment was never officially cancelled, leading to confusion.
Officials claim many of these structures are illegal constructions, but landowners argue they were unaware of pending land acquisition.
Two months ago, nearly 200 landowners stormed BDA’s Kengeri office to protest against the disconnection of electricity to their homes.
The BDA, in coordination with Bescom, has been cutting off power supply to properties deemed illegally built along the proposed BBC-2 alignment.
Meanwhile, BBC-1, another segment of the corridor, remains stalled, as authorities struggle to resolve compensation disputes with affected landowners.
