The Department of Tourism in Karnataka is set to introduce an interactive website and a digital infrastructure platform aimed at enhancing tourism experiences and providing comprehensive information on destinations across the state, reported The Hindu.

This initiative was announced by Tourism Director K V Rajendra at a workshop on coastal Karnataka tourism, which was held to raise awareness about tourism policies and investment opportunities in the region.

Rajendra emphasised that the new digital platform will offer detailed insights into tourist attractions, travel operators, guides, accommodations, and popular beaches.

It will allow visitors to plan their trips efficiently before arriving at their chosen destinations.

He urged stakeholders to share their tourism products, ensuring their inclusion in the platform to provide tourists with diverse options and seamless experiences.

Under the Karnataka Tourism Policy 2024-29, the state has identified 25 tourism themes and 44 tourism products eligible for government support.

Referring to experiential tourism, Rajendra said a calendar of events, including festivals, will be prepared to enable people to plan their trips.

“Our aim is not to commercialise these festivals and events. But make tourists experience it,” he clarified.

Recognising the untapped potential of Karnataka’s 321 km coastline, the department has proposed the formation of a Coastal Tourism Development Board.

The board will facilitate investments in coastal tourism projects and prepare a coastal master plan for sustainable development.

To further promote Karnataka as a global tourism hub, the Karnataka International Travel Expo will be held in Bengaluru from 26 to 28 February, attracting 120 foreign tour operators.
