Kerala Sanctions Rs 17.31 Crore For HMT–NAD Stretch, Speeds Up Seaport–Airport Corridor Phase 2 With Land Acquisition Push

The Kerala government has sanctioned administrative approval of Rs 17.31 crore for the construction of a new road stretch from Kalamassery HMT to Naval Armament Depot (NAD) in Kochi, which forms part of the second phase of the Seaport-Airport Road project.

At a review meeting chaired by Industries Minister P Rajeeve on Saturday (27 September), it was decided to float the tender for the two km stretch once technical approval is secured, The Hindu reported.

The planned road at the HMT section will be built with a width of 45 metres and a length of 600 metres.

Officials confirmed that the land value has already been deposited in line with the Supreme Court’s directive, while the Revenue Department is finalising acquisition procedures.

Surveying and marking of the construction site within HMT’s 215 hectares will be completed shortly.

Efforts are also being intensified at the NAD section, where the state has previously allocated Rs 32.26 crore.

Tenders for the widening of the NAD–Thorappu Road will also be issued soon.

Meanwhile, the NAD–Mahilalayam section, a 6.5 km stretch, is nearing the end of its land acquisition process. The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) had allocated Rs 569.34 crore for the purpose.

District Collector G Priyanka, along with representatives from the Revenue Department, KIIFB and Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK), also took part in the review meeting.
