The mist-laden hills of Idukki are set to undergo a “sky-high” transformation, with the Kerala Tourism Department taking its first concrete step towards establishing a cable car project connecting Moolamattom and Nadukani Pavilion.
The department has sanctioned Rs 29.5 lakh for a feasibility study of the project, which aims to elevate the district’s growing tourism potential.
Kerala Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas announced via a social media post that tourism is booming in Idukki district, and the cable car project has long been a demand of both visitors and locals.
Modelled on the lines of the Gulmarg cable car in Kashmir, the proposed Moolamattom–Nadukani Pavilion ropeway will trace the scenic Thodupuzha–Puliyanmala State Highway.
With the success of Vagamon’s Cantilever Glass Bridge which nearly doubled tourist footfall, it is believed that the cable car service could transform Nadukani into Idukki’s next major tourism hub.
