A protest by Khalistani extremists in London escalated into a security breach during the official visit of India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. As Jaishankar exited the Chatham House venue, a protester ran toward his convoy and tore the Indian national flag in front of police officers, triggering widespread condemnation, as reported by India Today.
A viral video of the incident shows the protester aggressively charging toward Jaishankar’s car, with police appearing hesitant to act initially.
The man tore the tricolour as other extremists chanted pro-Khalistan slogans. Moments later, officers moved in and detained the attacker along with other protesters.
Another video from the same protest shows Khalistani extremists demonstrating outside the venue, waving flags and shouting separatist slogans. The incident occurred during Jaishankar’s official UK visit from 4 to 9 March.
During a discussion at Chatham House, Jaishankar was asked whether PM Narendra Modi could leverage former US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue with Pakistan.
Jaishankar dismissed the idea of third-party intervention, asserting that India had already taken decisive steps, including the abrogation of Article 370, economic development in Jammu and Kashmir, conducting elections with high voter turnout
However, he made India’s stance clear on the outstanding issue,
"I think the part we are waiting for is the return of the stolen part of Kashmir, which is under an illegal Pakistani occupation. When that's done, I assure you, Kashmir solved," he was quoted as saying by India Today.
