Kochi-based marine robotics startup EyeROV has secured a landmark Rs 47 crore contract from the Indian Navy to supply advanced Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs).

The deal, announced on September 30, 2025, underscores the growing emphasis on indigenous technology in bolstering naval capabilities.

Founded in 2017 by IIT alumni, EyeROV has emerged as a pioneer in underwater robotics, with its systems already deployed in over 100 missions across India, West Asia, APAC, and Europe. The contract involves the delivery of field-tested UWROVs, designed for challenging environments such as deep-water volcanic studies up to 400 metres and the frigid Antarctic Sea.

These vehicles, including the flagship EyeROV TROUT—a 300-metre depth-rated, military-grade rugged ROV—are equipped with high-definition cameras, data collection instruments, and manipulators for tasks like underwater surveillance, reconnaissance, and asset inspection.

Johns T Mathai, Co-Founder and CEO of EyeROV, stated, “This recognition is a true reward for our dedicated efforts over the past eight years. We sincerely thank the iDEX and Navy teams for their support in fostering advanced indigenous solutions.

”EyeROV's technology stack, fully developed in India, aligns with the nation's push towards self-reliance in defence under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The startup has catered to prestigious clients including the DRDO, Indian Coast Guard, CSIR, and NCPOR, serving sectors like defence, hydro infrastructure, disaster management, energy, and environmental conservation.

The company has raised over $2 million in funding, including a $1.2 million Pre-Series A round from Unicorn India Ventures last year, and was recognised as one of the top five defence startups in India, winning the National Startup Award in 2022.

This order not only enhances the Indian Navy's operational resilience and strategic autonomy but also positions EyeROV as a key player in the global marine robotics landscape.

The UWROVs are expected to support critical naval operations, from monitoring maritime environments to ensuring safety in restricted visibility conditions.

With more than 80 customers worldwide, EyeROV's portfolio includes the EyeROV TUNA ROV and iBoat Alpha USV, demonstrating versatility in both defence and commercial applications. Industry observers note that such collaborations highlight the potential of Indian startups in contributing to national security through innovative, cost-efficient solutions.

Headquartered in Kochi, EyeROV continues to drive advancements in underwater intelligence, empowering missions in disaster recovery, dam inspections, and offshore energy operations.
