Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is considering extending the ongoing Phase II pink line of the Metro to Kizhakkambalam, where Infopark plans to set up its Phase III campus, according to a Times of India report.
According to Infopark authorities, the first round of discussions with KMRL officials on the potential extension has already taken place.
At present, the pink line, 11.2 km long, is designed to terminate near Infopark’s Phase I campus.
Construction is under way and targeted for completion by 2026.
Infopark CEO Sushanth Kurunthil stressed that connectivity remains a top priority for the upcoming project.
“We are giving priority to the Metro connectivity while implementing the Phase III project, as the upcoming integrated township will be one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the state. We expect that at least two lakh people will be employed at the township and an additional four lakh people will associate with the campus. So, transportation facilities would be crucial. During the detailed preliminary discussion, KMRL authorities informed us that they would consider extending the line to Phase III campus,” Kurunthil was quoted as saying by ToI.
The new campus is planned at Kizhakkambalam panchayat in Kunnathunadu taluk, with the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) reportedly identifying suitable plots, including unused paddy fields located opposite Wonderla Amusement Park.
The site is roughly 2 km from Infopark’s existing Phase II campus.
Officials said the extension, if cleared, will not only link the proposed Phase III township but also provide metro access to Infopark’s Phase II campus, making public transport a viable option for thousands of IT professionals and associated workers in the coming years.
