Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has been embroiled in controversy after a trainee woman doctor's body was found in the institution's premises.

In a development that adds to his troubles, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the case, has lodged a case against him for financial irregularities during his time at the helm of the hospital, NDTV reported.

Following the order from the Calcutta High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the probe into the case from a state-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The order was issued on a petition by former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Akhtar Ali, who requested a probe by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into alleged financial misconduct at the institution.

Ghosh resigned as the principal of the RG Kar Medical College two days after the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor's body was found inside a seminar hall on 9 August.

The court, questioning the decision to reappoint him, ordered him to go on a long leave, stating, "How did he step down and then be rewarded with another responsibility?"

On 20 August, the Kolkata Police filed a corruption case against Ghosh after the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the West Bengal government.

The SIT was tasked with investigating the allegations of financial misconduct at the state-run hospital dating back to 2021.
