Metro Railway Kolkata conducted a successful trial run between Noapara and Jai Hind Biman Bandar metro stations on the Yellow Line, reported news agency PTI.

The stretch, once operational, is expected to greatly ease access to the airport for residents in the northern suburbs.

Metro Railway General Manager P Uday Kumar Reddy oversaw the trial run and also carried out an inspection of the newly constructed Jai Hind Biman Bandar station.

“This stretch, once commissioned, would be a revolutionary step in providing a modern transport system to the people of Kolkata and suburbs to reach the airport,” Reddy was quoted as saying by PTI.

The trial was reported as smooth and successful, confirming the corridor's operational readiness.

Spanning 7.04 km, the corridor links Noapara with the airport via Dumdum Cantonment and Jessore Road stations.

The alignment includes a mix of underground tunnels and elevated viaducts.

The Metro Railway spokesperson noted that the stretch is fully complete and now awaits final clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).

Once approved, services are expected to commence, although no definitive timeline has been given.
