In a significant move aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, Kolkata Metro Railway will allow commuters to purchase multiple paper-based tickets embedded with QR codes in a single transaction from 28 February, PTI reported.
At present, passengers are restricted to buying only one QR-coded paper ticket per transaction.
The latest development is expected to streamline the ticketing process, reducing long queues and cutting down waiting time at metro station counters.
A statement released by the Metro Railway confirmed that from 28 February onwards, a single transaction will permit the purchase of up to seven paper-based QR tickets on behalf of a commuter.
The Kolkata Metro network currently operates across multiple corridors, including the Blue Line (Dakshineswar-New Garia), the Orange Line (New Garia-Ruby Crossing), the Green Line (Howrah Maidan-Esplanade), and the Purple Line.
While the upgraded ticketing system will be rolled out across most of the network, the Purple Line will remain excluded for now.
This initiative is expected to expedite ticketing, reduce congestion at ticket counters, and improve overall commuter experience.
