News Brief

Expressway projects are in the fast lane.
The much-awaited Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway is set to open to the public soon, with officials indicating that the 63 km stretch could become operational anytime after 15 December, according to a Times of India report.
The expressway, developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), promises to significantly cut travel time between the two key cities from the current two hours to just over an hour.
A senior NHAI officer from the Lucknow project implementation unit was quoted as saying in the report, “We have informed higher authorities that the project is complete and could be opened for public use. We are waiting for the final clearance and the date for its inauguration.”
According to officials, the expressway has achieved 99 per cent completion. It connects Sarojininagar on the outskirts of Lucknow to Shuklaganj in Unnao, adjacent to the Ganga River.
Designed for a top speed of 120 km/h, the access-controlled road will offer smooth and uninterrupted connectivity between the two urban centres.
To accommodate future traffic growth, an interchange has been planned to link the expressway with the upcoming Ganga Expressway, ensuring seamless movement across major transport corridors in Uttar Pradesh.
Officials said that the entire alignment comprises both elevated and at-grade sections. Special measures have been implemented to prevent accidents involving stray animals, ensuring the safety of commuters.
