In a move to address existing disparities within the Scheduled Caste (SC) communities, the Central government has formed a high-level panel to examine administrative measures aimed at safeguarding the interests of the most disadvantaged groups within the SCs, such as the Madigas.

Led by the Cabinet Secretary and constituted under the direction of the Prime Minister, the committee's primary goal is to ensure fair and equitable distribution of benefits to Scheduled Caste communities.

The panel will comprise secretaries from key ministries, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Personnel and Training, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the Department of Legal Affairs, and the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The committee is set to hold its inaugural meeting on Tuesday (23 January).
