Madras HC Issues Notice TO FRRO After Nalini, Former Convict In Rajiv Gandhi Assasination Case, Files Plea Seeking Release Of Husband Murugan From Sri Lankan Refugee Camp

Justice N Seshasayee of the Madras High Court today (6 July) issued notices to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) in Chennai, the Public Secretary, and the Tiruchirapalli Collector regarding a writ petition filed by S Nalini, who had been convicted for assasinating former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Sriperumbudur.

Nalini had asked the Court to direct the release of her husband Murugan, alias Sriharan (who was also convicted in the case) from a camp for Sri Lankan refugees in Tiruchirapalli.

Both of them wanted to live with their daughter in London, she said. Justice Seshasayee said that while he was neither allowing or dismissing the petition, he would decide on the matter only after hearing from the FRRO and others.

In an affidavit, Nalini stated that while the Supreme Court had released both of them, since her husband is a Sri Lankan national, the FRRO issued an order to keep him at the refugee camp till he could be deported.
