In a shocking turn of events, the father of Asim Das, an accused in the Mahadev betting app scam, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a village in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, as per reports by Hindustan Times.
Sushil Das (62), who had been missing for the past two days, was discovered in a well at Achhoti village under Anda police station limits on Tuesday (5 December) afternoon, in what authorities are preliminarily treating as a case of suicide.
Durg Senior Superintendent of Police, Ram Gopal Garg, stated, "Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide, but the exact reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained."
The deceased was the father of Asim Das, who is currently in custody as an alleged cash courier in the Mahadev betting app scam.
The ED claimed that a forensic analysis and statements by Asim Das implicated the Mahadev app promoters in paying approximately Rs 508 crore to outgoing Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
However, Baghel had vehemently denied the allegations, accusing the BJP of misusing the ED.
Amidst the scandal, Das submitted to a special PMLA court on 25 November, claiming that he had been framed as part of a conspiracy and had never delivered cash to politicians.
The investigations are ongoing, and the body of Sushil Das has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
