The Maharashtra cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved the Global Competence Centre (GCC) Policy 2025.
The policy, effective until 2030, is expected to attract investments worth Rs 50,600 crore and generate nearly four lakh jobs in the state, as per a state government release.
India has witnessed a sharp rise in GCCs, from 1,200 in 2021 to over 1,900 today, employing nearly 19 lakh people.
Maharashtra currently hosts around 400 such centres, with four lakh jobs already created.
Under the new policy, the state will establish an additional 400 GCCs during the five-year period, doubling employment opportunities while strengthening its position as an innovation hub.
Officials highlighted that the framework provides for both financial and non-financial incentives, including additional floor space, uninterrupted power and water supply, institutional support, and property tax benefits.
The policy aligns with the national vision of making India a $30 trillion economy by 2047, with a focus on knowledge-driven sectors.
It prioritises industries such as space and defence, agriculture and food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, automotive, renewable energy, textiles, logistics, gems and jewellery, and mining.
Global Competence Centres in India are playing a vital role in meeting the needs of industries. Maharashtra’s policy is expected yo enhance competitiveness while drawing high-value global investments.
Other states including Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh already have GCC policies in place.
